xterra weekend

last weekend was filled with xterra activities. on friday, christian got to take part in the kids scramble. his group ran around the main square in downtown ogden and back through the big xterra balloon canopy. after the running scramble, the kids had a bike race around the same block. with so many kids, christian mentioned that the biking "got real crowded". he said it was hard to go fast as he wanted to. we're super proud of how hard he ran and biked. he even got TWO medals from xterra. not bad for a friday afternoon...

the next morning my wonderful mother-in-law came early to watch erik as bryce and i headed up the canyon for our lazy saturday morning activities. bryce ran the 4th in the series of 4 trail runs sponsored by xterra called the "xduro" which was a 21K through wheeler canyon. he trained so hard for this race and really pushed himself in the series. in fact he ended up finishing 3rd in points for his age group. are we going to hawaii for the big finale race? it's still being negotiated. :)
i signed up to do the off-road triathlon. this was my third year participating - although the first two years i took the team route as the swimmer. my friend deb mortentsen, who was our mt. biker on our now dis-banded team, encouraged me to try it on my own this time. i did. it was grueling. i think giving birth was easier. lucky for me i still qualified for the, ahem - athena division. my swim was slow, the mt. biking was nasty - but i didn't crash, and the run went pretty much up the face of snowbasin. yeah, not bad for a morning in the woods.
great weekend - and it was all in our backyard. i love it, well, i love it now that the pain has worn off.
