we got back late last night from camping at red fish lake. it was BEAUTIFUL! we met up with our friends debbie and josh mortensen (and their kids - 3 1/2, 7 and 9) and had a blast. the kids (minus erik) rode bikes around the camp ground with every spare minute they could find. the jagged sawtooth mountains were looming in the backdrop of the deep blue red fish lake. there were huge pine trees that were lined up around the lake as to protect it from the outside world. the temperature was nice - 80's during the day and i bet the 50's at night.
we hiked the bench lakes trail one day. the lakes we hiked to were these beautiful frog-filled, lily padded oasis’s. i had seen lily pads before, but i've never seen water clear enough that you could see how they were growing. the trail was smooth, but maybe a bit longer than the kids were expecting. everyone pulled through which made beach time more enjoyable that afternoon.
bryce and i got to mountain bike on williams creek trail which had an incredibly steep climb thrown in with breathtaking wildflowers and butterflies all along the trail. the area we rode in had been burned by a wildfire many years ago. so, the upper area had blackened trees which against the blue sky made the flowers pop out almost florescent-like. further down the trail i couldn't get enough of the smell of fresh pines. it really caught my breath, okay maybe it was because i was winded from riding. i didn't bring my camera on this ride, but deb took some great pictures which i'll add later.
we all survived sleeping in tents, cooking on gas stoves, eating at picnic tables and swatting away the mosquitoes. it was such a blast hanging with the mortensen's. great family memories were made and we will be going back to the sawtooths for sure.

that looks beautiful! man, i miss the mountains. i wish i could have seen you when i was in utah, the time went by way too fast. i ended up meeting up with a few roomies for lunch one day, next time you should join us, i would love to see you.
I love the Sawtooths. I have many memories of Redfish lake and all the areas around there. We didn't make our annual trip there and when I see your photos and read about your trip - I am sad we didn't make it there this year. So glad you got to experience it.
