distracted

erik has a thing for lights as most babies do. however, it's become quite the distraction to him as he's trying to sleep. you see, the baby monitor microphone part is tucked away in the corner of his crib. there is a light in the center, that when on, turns green. my cute little guy got so distracted from the green light that several weeks ago in the middle of the night i was scrambling to find a sharpie marker or anything to cover up the light. the best i could do was a stamp. stamps don't come cheap anymore these days, so i tore it up in a few pieces and did my best to cover the illumination. that seemed to work for a couple weeks. last night i woke up to him stirring really loudly and making all kinds of funny yelps. i just figured he was hungry although he'd been sleeping really well through the night off and on these past few weeks. at 1:30am he had scooted all the way up to the top of the crib and was stuck, i guess, and was frustrated because he couldn't scoot any more. and, he was scooting to get closer to the light thingy that was dimly glowing. i picked him up, topped off his tummy and put him back to sleep at the far end of his crib. at 5am, i heard the same yelps. sure enough, he had scooted back up to the top of the crib more angled towards the monitor. after another topping off, i laid him back down and his head immediately popped up looking for the green light again. the best i could do was grab another stamp with the hope that it would cover the glow even better. that seemed to work. in the wee hours of the morn, it's amazing the brilliant ideas you can come up with. i took these pics around 8am this morning after some additional pre-dawn scooting, he figured out how NOT to get stuck at the top of the crib, and how to scoot closer to his microphone and the $1.26 taped over the green light.

How funny! Isn't it fun to see your baby discovering new things? Even if it's not at the most convenient times! Looks like it's time to move the monitor out. He'll have the thing completely disembled(sp) and sending messages to Japan before you know it!
