island vacation

bryce was fortunate to have made a trip to the island this past saturday. antelope island is utah's island paradise - not really, and is only 45 minutes away from our home. bryce has been doing this trail run series with xterra for the past several weeks and this past saturday was the third of four races. let's just say that antelope island in mid-july is not the most lush place in utah, but it definitely holds it's own unique beauty. you for sure won't get a lei or a mahalo when you leave, but you for sure will get your car spackled with bugs. especially if you're driving 110mph because you were late getting to the starting line.
"wow, did you know the subaru would go 110?"
"what?"
"yeah, it didn't even shake. it was a really smooth ride."
anyway, bryce did fantastic in the race for the hot/sunny/dry conditions. he even had injured his ankle the week before on a hike with mack and didn't let that stop him from competing. the total points competition for his age group is really heating up too. i believe he's third, but of course he'd like to be first.
my favorite thing is trying to explain to christian why third is actually good in this situation. one of us may have done a race or something and christian will go, "oh, so you got 13th?" and then have this expression of *kind praise* as if he feels badly for us. it's pretty funny. he thinks we're total underachievers.

What a cool thing this race series sounds like. Do women participate also? I know what you're saying about how hard it is to impress our kids. A few months ago i took 2nd place in a race and when they called my name Cade had this completely shocked looked on his face.

Bryce,
Oh give me a race,
Where the antelope run,
And the runners are dropping like flies,
Where water is scarce,
The the sun is intense.
And the pain is just part of the day,
Run, run on the range
Where runners all seem deranged.
Where seldom a cheer,
From the animals near
And your day is all cloudy with sweat.
