pioneer day

my favorite song from church as i was growing up was "here come the oxen" song. growing up in south carolina, i always remembered when pioneer day was getting closer because we'd start singing the oxen song that made your throat hurt. then there was the "little pioneer children" song that as a kid made you think that all pioneer children were perfect - i bet they weren't. i still liked the song though because we would sing it in rounds.
yesterday for pioneer day, i went on a nice bike ride while it was light outside because bryce was around yesterday morning. i left from home which is unusual because i like to drive down to the downtown area and start my rides. our neighborhood is up on a slight hillside and at the end of a ride the last thing i want to do is go up a hill to get to my house. as i rode closer to where my usual starting point was, i discovered that i was blocked off from anything west of town because of the ogden city pioneer parade. i eventually made it around the gun-firing fake cowboys and float from the 44th ward.
later after christian came over, we headed up to park city to get out of the heat and into one of our favorite mexican resturants - baja cantina. my mouth is watering just remembering my honey-chipotle halibut tacos from last night. yum. great food there all the time. it's usually super busy, but they seat you quickly. i think even the coke tastes better there.
afterwards christian and bryce played on the alpine slide which looked like a blast. i'm sure the pioneers never imagined people flying down mountainsides on little scooter things with hand brakes.

Wow! You guys have been busy! I love seeing how fast Eric is growing! I think I need to check out the Xterra Race Series - that looks like a fun one? Do you think you will be up to doing that series next year?
